Prepaid Metering Solution Overview
At the installation site, various network configurations are in operation, tasked with capturing data from the diverse subsystems and transmitting it to the backend platform.
- Prepaid Metering Overview
- How it Works
Our system includes several key components:
- Smart Meter: BIS-approved dual sense energy meters
- XENIUS Adaptor: “The XENIUS Adaptor is like a bridge for a group of smart meters on one panel. It helps get information about your energy use and can also make changes to the meters. These adaptors talk to the XENIUS Gateway using a secure RF network, just like your Wi-Fi at home.”
- XENIUS Gateway: The gateway device monitors and collects data from individual adaptors that track equipment and appliances using sensors or interfaces. It follows specific rules and communicates with our cloud-based backend platform, Xenia IoT, using a secure GPRS network.
- Xenia Backend Platform: This platform receives data from various field gateways, processes it, stores it securely, analyzes it, and presents it to users through web and mobile apps. It also functions as a revenue management system, handling accounting tasks.
In the installation area, various network configurations are in place to read data from individual meters and transmit it to the backend platform
- Wired RS485 protocol retrieves data from energy meters on a single panel, typically ranging from four to twelve meters depending on dwelling units per floor. The adaptors collect data from these RS485 networks at predefined intervals. Multiple wired RS485 networks function within a building, with adaptors using RF networks for further communication.
- These adaptors form a network mesh operating on RF 865 Mhz bands. Depending on the building layout and meter quantity, multiple RF networks can be configured, each controlled by a Gateway. Data from an RF network is aggregated on its respective Gateway and securely sent to the backend platform via GPRS private APN.
- The data is processed to calculate consumption and deducted from individual prepaid balances. When a balance falls below a set minimum, consumers are alerted to recharge, offline or online. If the balance drops below a cutoff, the supply is temporarily disconnected and restored upon recharge. All data is accessible to stakeholders at any time.
